Stoneham Fire Department to Receive $11,000 in Fire Safety Grants

BOSTON- State Representative Michael Day is pleased to announce the Stoneham Fire Department will receive $11,632.24 in state grants through the FY25 Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) and Senior SAFE grant programs, along with the second round of the FY2025 Fire Safety Equipment Grant. This is in addition to the $19,000 the town’s fire department was given earlier this year.

The Fire Department will receive a $5,700 SAFE Grant to promote fire and live safety programs in Stoneham schools and a $2,400 Senior SAFE Grant to support fire safety outreach for older residents such as carbon monoxide checks, home visits and other safety measures.

“I applaud the Stoneham Fire Department for proactively seeking this grant to enhance the safety of our community,” said State Representative Michael Day. “This funding plays a vital role in supporting local public safety efforts, and I remain committed to working alongside our town partners to secure these essential resources from the state.”

“Fire safety education and equipment are critical to keeping our communities and firefighters safe,” said State Senator Jason Lewis. “I’m pleased that the Stoneham Fire Department is receiving this state support to continue community education programs that teach young people and older residents about fire safety and prevention, and to ensure that our brave firefighters have the equipment they need to protect themselves.”

Additionally, the Fire Department will receive $3,532 for the second round of the FY25 Fire Safety Grant Program. This grant provides funding for personal protective and safety equipment to comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

“The Stoneham Fire Department is extremely grateful for all grant opportunities awarded to help us better serve our residents and visitors. We will use these SAFE/Senior SAFE grant funds for public education needs for our seniors and students populations,” said Stoneham Fire Chief Matt Grafton. “The equipment grant portion will be used for purchasing tools and gear used towards electric vehicle firefighting and brush firefighting. As always we appreciate all financial support that the state can provide especially during these challenging financial times.”

Fire departments across Massachusetts can utilize this program to purchase 135 different types of eligible equipment, including ballistic protective clothing, thermal protective clothing, gear washers and dryers, thermal imaging cameras, assorted hand tools and extrication equipment, communications resources, hazardous gas meters, and much more.
