Stoneham Firefighters Climb 41 Flights of Stairs in Full Gear

Though it must have been a good workout, they didn't do it just for the exercise. The climb benefited the American Lung Association.

For those of us who huff and puff after climbing up only a few flights of stairs, or who take the elevator when faced with anything more than three flights, a 41-flight climb seems terrible.

A 41-flight climb in less than 15 minutes while wearing full firefighter gear? That’s impossible.

But that is exactly what two of Stoneham’s firefighters did. Firefighter Chuck Webber and Lieutenant Rob Dalis joined members from several other fire departments in the state in the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Fundraiser.

The event required Webber and Dalis to climb up the stairs in the 41 story Mellon Building in Boston wearing firefighter gear that can weigh up to 80 pounds.

Webber made the climb in 11 minutes and 35 seconds while Dalis finished in 13 minutes and 55 seconds. Stoneham Fire Department officials said the department is proud of the two men for their participation in the fundraiser.
