Stoneham Gave Police 200 Pounds of Drugs

But in a good way.

STONEHAM, MA - The police department turned over nearly 200 pounds of expired and unused medication after the drug take back event on Saturday.

The department turned 198.8 pounds over to the DEA, Chief James McIntyre said. That number includes what was in the department's collection kiosk in the station lobby and two other take back events. Keep up on all things Stoneham by subscribing to Patch!

"I truly appreciate the commitment on the part of Stoneham’s citizens to regularly participate in efforts to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs," McIntyre said. "These take back events are just one example of the ways that the police department and the community can work together to do our part to fight the nationwide opioid epidemic, and we are happy to continue working alongside the DEA to remove these dangerous drugs from our community."
