Stoneham Man Facing Multiple Drug Charges After South End Bust

Police recovered more than 30 packages of heroin, a significant number of Oxycodone pills and a small amount of cocaine near the Pine Street Inn on May 21.

A Stoneham man is facing a slew of drug charges after police witnessed an alleged transaction near the Pine Street Inn in the South End May 21.

Reynaldo Garcia, of 280 Main St., was arrested and charged with distribution of class A drugs (heroin), possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of class B drugs (cocaine), possession of class B drugs (oxycodone) and possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone after officers from the District 4 Drug Control Unit observed another individual allegedly get into the suspect’s 2012 White Chevrolet Impala and hop out again a short while later—behavior characteristic of a street-level drug deal, according to police.

Officers followed the second individual from Garcia’s car into a nearby CVS, where they claimed to have heard him asking for hypodermic needles at the pharmacy counter. Police approached the man and asked him if he was in possession of any illegal substances, to which he allegedly said he did and produced a small paper package with the word “yes” stamped on it, containing a powder substance believed to be heroin by police.

Officers informed the individual he would be summonsed to Boston Municipal Court for possession of heroin and asked him where he obtained the drugs, and he allegedly told police that they were bought from the person in the white car, known to the man as “Rey,” and later identified by police as Garcia.

At that point, the officers who had been surveilling the Impala conducted a motor vehicle stop and placed the operator, Garcia, under arrest and chargd him with distribution of class A drugs.

An initial search of the Garcia’s vehicle revealed an identical package of heroin to the one recovered from the other individual and $1,580 in cash which was seized as evidence.

The Impala was transported back to the District 4 station to be inventoried and towed, and a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a black polo vest with a manila envelope in the pocket containing 30 small packages of heroin stamped with the word “untouchable” stamped in red block letters, according to police. Further inspection of the vest uncovered another manila envelope with 10 small packages of a substance believed to be cocaine and a small pill bottle containing approximately 120 10-milligram oxycodone pills.

The vest, pill bottles, manila envelopes, two cellular phones and a Thrifty Rental Car rental agreement in Garcia’s name were all logged in as evidence.

The incident took place within 100 feet of Peter’s Park, according to police reports, but an official measurement is set to be conducted at a later date.
