Stoneham Man Makes Bomb Threat, Assaults Officer at Police Station
Police have charged a 35-year-old Stoneham man after making a bomb threat and assaulting a police officer Tuesday.

STONEHAM, MA—A 35-year-old Stoneham man has been charged with Issuing a false bomb threat and assault and battery on a Police Officer after an incident at the Stoneham Police Station Tuesday.
Police announced Wednesday that the man, who's name is not being released at this time, made a bomb threat to a police officer at the lobby window and later allegedly tried to strike an officer multiple times.

“Thankfully, the public was never in danger, but the actions of this individual caused considerable concern,” Chief James McIntyre said in a statement. “I commend our officers for bringing this situation to a successful resolution with no one injured and no disruption to the community.”
Police say that the man entered the police station wearing a backpack, and approached the dispatch window in the lobby and made a bomb threat to an officer at the window. The man allegedly waked toward a training room where a community group was going to be holding a meeting.

Officers left the dispatch area to calm the man, who allegedly attempted to strike an officer multiple time. Pepper spray was deployed to restrain the man and take him in to custody. An officer used a pocket knife to cut off the backpack, which was later carried from the building. A search of the backpack revealed no explosives inside.
Police later searched Town Hall, as the suspect had been seen in Town Hall earlier that evening. No suspicious devices or packages were located.
The man was taken to a local hospital for a mental and physical health evaluation and will be summonsed to Woburn District Court at a later date.
