Stoneham Man Who Serves as Middlesex Sheriff's Captain Charged with Indecent Assault & Battery
A captain and member of the Honor Guard is accused of inappropriately touching a woman in her car outside a Malden restaurant.

MALDEN, MA - A Middlesex Sheriff's captain who serves in the Honor Guard was charged Friday morning as a result of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault at the Dockside Restaurant in Malden.
John Panaggio, 38, of Stoneham was arraigned at Malden District Court. He was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14.
Panaggio turned himself in to Malden police Thursday after an investigation into an alleged sexual assault on January 20. Panaggio allegedly entered the victim's parked car and touched her inappropriately despite her asking him to leave several times, the Middlesex DA's Office said in a release.

Panaggio was identified through the Dockside's surveillance footage, the DA's Office said.
Panaggio was released on personal recognizance and ordered the to have no contact with the alleged victim. The next scheduled court date is Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

This investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Malden Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
