Stoneham Police, Fire Respond to Vehicle Rollover

Fire Chief Matthew Grafton and Police Chief James McIntyre report that the Stoneham Fire and Police Departments responded to a rollover motor vehicle crash Friday afternoon.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Stoneham Fire and Police received a report of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Summer and Pleasant streets.

Upon arrival, first responders learned that a 79-year-old man from Saugus, driving a 2014 Lexus, was traveling south on Pleasant Street when he veered off the road and hit a tree, which caused his car to rollover onto its side on the sidewalk on Pleasant Street, trapping him inside.

Firefighters from Ladder 1 and Engine 2 worked to extricate the man from the vehicle, which sustained heavy front end and roof damage. Firefighters were able to get the man out of his car by removing the cracked windshield.

The man was transported via ambulance to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. He was the sole occupant of the car.

Pleasant Street was temporarily closed until fire and police cleared the scene at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The incident is under investigation by the Stoneham Police Department.
