Spot Pond Family Fishing Festival Saturday

Grab your fishing rod and tackle box and gear up because the 13th annual Spot Pond Family Fishing Festival is this weekend.
The derby runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at at Spot Pond. Straw Point parking area is located on South Street near Route 28 in Stoneham.
"We average about 300 people every year," wrote Detective Paul Norton in an email to Stoneham Patch. "We give away fishing equipment, t-shirts, and food."

The derby, which will be held rain or shine, is free to participate in and no fishing license is required. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Limited fishing equipment will be available to participants.

The derby is put on by the Stoneham Police Department, MassWildlife Angler Education Program and the Department of Conservation and Recreation, with several Stoneham area businesses pitching in to the cause.
Food and drinks will be available, and there are free giveaways planned throughout the derby.
