Suspect attempted to rob Stop & Shop on Wednesday, fled in silver Honda sedan.

The Stoneham Police Department is searching for a man who was involved in an attempted armed robbery at Stop & Shop earlier this week according to Chief James McIntyre.

On Wednesday, July 19, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Stoneham Police responded to Stop & Shop, 295 Main St., following a report of an attempted armed robbery.

Upon arrival, police learned that a man approached a cashier at the customer service desk with a reusable Stop & Shop shopping bag in hand. The man then pulled out a note from the bag, which was written on what appeared to be a brown paper bag, demanding money. The man also mentioned he had a firearm and gestured to his waist.

The cashier then verbally challenged the man to prove that he had a gun, at which point he grabbed the note and fled the store.

He was seen leaving in a silver Honda sedan with a missing hubcap on the front driver’s side of the vehicle. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 50 years old, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, a gray tank top covered by a dark coat/shirt, white cargo pants and black sneakers. He matches the description of the suspect who previously robbed a Stop & Shop in Somerville and attempted to rob a Stop & Shop in Medford.
