Stoneham Power Outage, Oil Spill When Woman Crashes into Transformer: Police
Firefighters needed to extricate the woman from her vehicle.
An elderly woman caused a local power outage when she drove into a transformer on the side of a commercial building on Maple Street, Stoneham Police and Fire said.
Stoneham Fire responded to a report around 2:40 p.m. Friday about a crash at 100 Maple St. Officials arrived to a car that had crashed into a power transformer on the side of a building.
Officials say a 69-year-old woman, who traveling east on Maple Street towards Main Street, veered off the road, over multiple medians, in between telephone poles and into the transformer.

The transformer was dislodged from its foundation and caused a 30-gallon oil spill.
Eversource arrived and confirmed power was off so firefighters could extricate the woman from her vehicle. She was transported to Winchester Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
