What would you want future generations of Stoneham residents to know about you, your family, your way of life today, what students are learning in our classrooms and what you hope for Stoneham’s future?
Three years ago, the Stoneham School Building Committee (SSBC), and the community, embarked on building a new high school. Visions were shared, plans were discussed and community input was sought and from this work, a building was designed that will give future generations of students every tool they need to thrive educationally. Slowly, from the ground, a new structure rose and if you’ve been down Franklin Street recently you’ve seen that new structure taking form! It is an exciting time for our town!
In eager anticipation of its completion in mid-2024, the SSBC is excited to announce that it is undertaking the age-old tradition of burying a time capsule - a record of what this era in time was about – somewhere on the site. Future residents will one day uncover that bit of history, and discover items and messages from their past that document the people, times and the culture of Stoneham for the early 2020’s.

For this very important piece of history, the SSBC is inviting everyone to participate in this project by adding to journals containing messages from Stoneham residents of all ages which will be placed in the capsule. Come with ideas to write in these journals that will be read and treasured by future generations.
Look for the SSBC tent at Town Day (located near the Fire Station), see what is happening on the site this month, and what has happened on the site over the last year. talk to future Stonehamites in the journals – say hello, share your name and address, write what you love about the town, why you are here - anything that will give future generations a glimpse of the way things are today and your hopes for Stoneham of the future.

Be sure to bring your ideas for other items that could be added to the capsule for the Committee to consider. Learn where the Committee and our partners at SMMA, Perkins&Will and Consigli Construction are focusing as the building takes shape and work begins on what will be inside.
The Stoneham School Building Committee continues to meet monthly at the Stoneham Central Middle School Media Center. Meetings are in person and virtual and can be viewed on Stoneham Community Access Television.
