Middle school students and parents learn about internet safety

Stoneham Cultural Council grant supports internet safety program at Stoneham Central Middle School

(SCMS PTO)

On behalf of the PTO at Stoneham Central Middle School, I would like to say thank you to Stoneham Cultural Council, whose support, coupled with PTO fundraising efforts, made bringing a great program to our school community possible.

This fall, Katie Greer, Internet Safety Expert, spoke to parents at Back to School Night and gave an informative (and at times eye opening) presentation about the potential dangers lurking on the Internet and strategies to keep kids safe. Her recommendations focused on parents taking an active role in kids’ use of social media, and ongoing conversations and check-ins.

Katie then returned to SCMS later in the year and presented to all students in grades 5 through 8. Her goal is to help kids learn how to have a healthy relationship with technology.

This program was supported in part by a grant from the Stoneham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
