STONEHAM, MA—Stoneham and other area fire departments responded to their second two-alarm blaze this week as a fire damaged a home in Stoneham late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Stoneham Fire Chief Matt Grafton told Patch that fire was reported at 92 Washington St. just after midnight Tuesday night, and and the fire had begun in the basement. The Woburn, Melrose, Reading, Wakefield and Winchester fire departments assisted with the blaze.

"The guys did an excellent job and made an excellent attack," Grafton told Patch."They had to withdraw a firefighter and regroup, but then were able to get back in and knock it down."
The home was empty, aside from tools and other construction equipment, due to renovations being done to the home. Grafton said that the home endured $100,000 in damage, but that it was not a total loss.

The family who owns the home was set to return in the near future, but now will need to wait for additional renovations to fix the extensive fire, smoke and water damage done to the home.
There were no inhabitants in the home at the time, and no firefighters were injured. The Stoneham Fire and Police Departments, as well as the State Fire Marshal's office are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
