VIDEO: Stoneham Fire Chief, Selectmen Honor Local Hero
Gino Millerick was recognized for saving lives during a three-alarm house fire on Congress Street on Oct. 10, 2011.
A local man was honored Tuesday night by Chief Joseph Rolli and the Board of Selectmen for his heroic actions during a .
At about 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2011, Gino Millerick saw the Congress Street house ablaze, kicked in the front door and helped residents escape the fire unharmed.
Rolli commended Millerick for his bravery.

"Gino happened to live across the street and was walking across the street, heard screams from the building, went in and got all the people evacuated," Rolli said. "It was an unbelievable act."
The fire chief also noted how Millerick helped several residents escape the blaze, while at the same time preventing firefighters from having to enter the dangerous situation in search of tenants because they were already out of the building thanks to Millerick's assistance.

Rolli presented Millerick with a Stoneham Fire Department pin to thank him for his heroism.
Selectman Robert Sweeney, who gave Millerick a certificate of appreciaton on behalf of the board, also took a moment to recognize Millerick for his quick thinking last October.
"One thing that is not being recognized here is Geno was a victim of a fire in July (2011)," Sweeney said, adding that Millerick spent time recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital. "For him to go into this burning house to save these people after what he experienced himself in July is like over the top for a human being to do."
Millerick briefly thanked his family for their support and also the selectmen for the honor.
