ABOUT TOWN: Summer Concerts and Summer Golf Clinics in Stoughton

STOUGHTON LIONS CLUB ANNOUNCES 2012 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES LINEUP: I don't know about you, but nothing says summer more than the fabulous Sunday evening concerts at the on Rt. 27, across from the Stoughton Public Library.

The upcoming 2012 Stoughton Lions Club "" series begins on Sunday, July 8. 

All concerts are from 5-7 p.m. and are FREE OF CHARGE. Concerts are open to all Stoughton residents. Please bring your own chairs/blankets to sit on.

And, just a reminder: there are no bathroom facilities at Faxon Veterans Memorial Park.   

The first concert on July 8 features , an "oldies" band featuring the vocal talents of blonde bombshell (and former State Rep. and Lt. Governor candidate .  She and her husband run Christine's Fireside Grille in Foxboro when she's not on stage.

The band has performed since 1988, mostly at fundraising events. The current band also includes well-known locals Roy Cohen, Steve Fradkin, Steve Tapper, Steve Hillman, and Stoughton Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi.    

On July 15, will be featured.  They perform easy listening-type music, and feature the vocal talents of Stoughton's own Janie Dulong, a local fitness trainer, and her significant other Don Leon. Dulong is also Controller at New-Com Metal Projects.  

The remainder of the summer schedule includes: The Westwood Swing Band (July 22); (August 5); The Infractions (August 12); and Paul Agnew and the John Capavella Quartet (August 19).

This is the Stoughton Lions Club's 14th Year producing and arranging these free concerts. Once again, the chairperson this year is Bob Mullen, the King Lion of the Stoughton Lions Club. Mullen is busy these days - he is also the president of Friends for Seniors and is the Deputy Moderator at Town Meeting.

ATTENTION VETERANS: Cedar Hill Golf Course and the Town of Stoughton say, "Thank you Veterans for your service" by offering FREE golf instruction for Veterans at the , 1137 Park Street in Stoughton.

The clinics, sponsored by Golf for All, are run by , PGA Golf Professional.

All clinics run from noon until 1 p.m. on the following Fridays: July 6, 13, 20 and 27, and August 3, 10, 17 and 24.

SUMMER GOLF PROGRAMS: Speaking of Cedar Hill, the town-owned golf course is helping kids learn the game of golf this summer, while also helping the Jimmy Fund!

Summer golf clinics for girls and boys, ages 8-16, will be held in two four-week sessions at Cedar Hill on Park Street. The cost is only $40 for the four week session. All checks are to be made out to the Jimmy Fund. 

July sessions meet on Friday the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th.  August sessions are on Friday the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th.  All classes run from 11 a.m. until noon.

There is a limit of twelve juniors per clinic. Clinics are held rain or shine. To register, send your child's name, parent's name. address, home phone, cell phone and an email address, with the $40 check made out to the Jimmy Fund, to: Junior Golf Programs, Cedar Hill Golf Course, 1137 Park Street, Stoughton, MA 02072.

The clinic is being taught by Bob Beach, a PGA Golf Professional.
