Selectmen Refuse Police Chief's Resignation
The selectmen took the symbolic vote at their meeting Tuesday night.

STOUGHTON, MA - The message was clear from residents and the selectmen - they do not want Police Chief Paul Shastany to leave.
Tuesday night, the selectmen took a symbolic vote to reject Shastany’s registration letter. The vote came after about 40 minutes of residents speaking in support of the outgoing police chief, according to SMAC.

Monday, Shastany announced his intent to retire in April. Shastany has been Stoughton’s chief of police for six years and has been credited with cleaning up a department plagued with scandals, including two officers who were convicted of corruption charges, and a third officer who resigned.
