Stoughton Fire, Police Respond to House Fire on Central Street Tuesday Morning

Stoughton Police and Fire are on the scene to a Central Street home at Tuesday.

Stoughton and are on the scene of a three-alarm fire at Central Street.

Tuesday morning, they first responded to a fire at a single-family home on Central Street Tuesday morning shortly after 7 a.m., according to Stoughton Fire captain Douglas Campbell.

There was a fire in a trash barrel in the yard placed near the side of the home, which is located at 1178 Central Street, across from Ahavath Torah.

The fire spread from the barrel and extended to the outside wall of home, but did not spread inside, Campbell said.  There were no injuries and Campbell said the house is still habitable.

Campbell said Stoughton Fire received a call at 7:04 a.m. and arrived a minute later. The police department was already on scene operating two fire extinguishers to keep the fire in check.  The occupants were safely removed from the house as a precaution as the fire was being extinguished.

There was some damage outside of the home due to the fire. The bulkhead door leading to the basement was damaged, but there was no reported damage inside the home, Campbell said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation Campbell said, but for now it’s being considered an “accident.”
