Stoughton Woman Raising Money for Domestic Violence Agency
Alethea McFarlane Virtually Hiking to Support The Elizabeth Stone House

A Stoughton resident is raising money for a Boston-based non-profit that provides services to victims of domestic violence.
Alethea McFarlane is participating as a virtual hiker during the upcoming Wilderness Heals fundraiser in New Hampshire (July 20-22) that is raising money for the Elizabeth Stone House, a place that helps homeless and at-risk survivors of domestic violence, mental illness and substance abuse achieve greater safety and stability.
McFarlane won’t be hiking until next year (when she has more practice under her belt) but she felt compelled to participate because of the Stone House’s mission.

“This is an incredible fundraiser for people who are in need of support so they can take their lives to the next level of living,” she said. “The organization provides the means to help these people get out of a bad situation and make an independent life. These are people who are being abused and feel locked into a situation they don’t have control over. This can impact children as well.”
A nature lover who enjoys walking, she thought she might enjoy hiking but after doing a practice hike required by Wilderness Heals McFarlane felt she wasn’t ready to commit to the three-day event.

However, McFarlane said she has already met some wonderful women as a result of her involvement and is looking forward to hiking in next year’s Wilderness Heals.
