Stoughton Youth Wins Big in New England Kids Triathlon

Dylan Reid, 9, only had a month of training prior to the event.

The summer may be half over, but it’s been a memorable one so far for one young Stoughton resident.

On Sunday, July 20, 9-year-old Dylan Reid took part in his first triathlon, the New England Kids Triathlon, placing second in his division, his mother Lila told Stoughton Patch.

“It was one of the best days of my life,” Dylan Reid said. “One of the best parts was when they finally announced my name. It was such a happy feeling when I was able to get up on the podium.”

Lila Reid said she was even more impressed at his success, considering she had only signed him up a month before the event and he underwent minimal training.

“He is competitive and very focused and had never done anything like this, and is always up for a challenge,” she said. “He is a natural athlete and loves to compete so we knew this was something he would thrive in and enjoy. He is a really great kid and I have been proud of him since the day he was born. It was a thrill to see him in something like this and even more of a thrill to watch his face when they called his name.”

The event, one of the largest in the United States according to NewEnglandKidsTriathlong.org, was held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus, where nearly 1,000 kids attended and participated.
