SUDBURY, MA — The SMILE Playground at Haskell Field in Sudbury will be temporarily closed for repairs during the week of May 4, according to the town's Park and Recreation Commission.

Officials said the closure is needed so crews can complete work on the playground’s surface. The repairs are part of ongoing maintenance efforts to keep the popular, inclusive playground safe, accessible and in good condition for all users.

The SMILE (Sudbury’s Mission for Inclusive Leisure Experiences) Playground is a well-used destination for local families, designed to accommodate children of all abilities. Because of its specialized surface and equipment, periodic maintenance is required to ensure it continues to meet safety standards.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we repair the playground surface,” the town shared in the notice.

The work is expected to take place throughout the week, and the playground will remain closed to the public during that time to allow crews to complete repairs efficiently and safely. Weather conditions could impact the timeline.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and consider visiting other nearby parks and playgrounds in Sudbury while the work is underway. The playground is expected to reopen once repairs are complete.
