New Secured Care Unit At Sudbury Nursing Facility

SUDBURY, MA — A Connecticut-based healthcare organization announced its plans to add a new secured care unit at a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in Sudbury.

RegalCare Management Group acquired Bear Mountain at Sudbury and plans to add a new 41-bed enhanced care and behavioral health unit at the facility. The company said the unit will serve people with dementia, cognitive impairment and complex behavioral health needs, including residents who need skilled nursing care and increased supervision.

Currently, Bear Mountain serves as a 142-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility at 136 Post Rd. The newly enhanced facility is scheduled to open in August.

RegalCare operates skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers across Massachusetts, including facilities in Lowell, Quincy and Worcester, among others.

“Bear Mountain at Sudbury represents an exciting addition to the RegalCare family and an opportunity to expand access to highly specialized care,” RegalCare Chief Operating Officer Melinda Monasterski said in a statement. “This new 41-bed secured unit will help meet a critical need for patients with dementia-related behaviors and complex behavioral health challenges, while providing hospitals and families with an appropriate care setting for these individuals.”

RegalCare said the unit will include specially trained staff, individualized care plans, behavioral support services, therapeutic programming and enhanced safety measures.

The Sudbury facility is expected to become a referral resource for hospitals, emergency departments, geriatric psychiatry programs, rehabilitation hospitals, accountable care organizations and community providers in the region, according to RegalCare.

“Patients with complex cognitive and behavioral needs often face extended hospital stays simply because appropriate placements are unavailable,” Monasterski said. “Our goal is to create a center of excellence that supports timely transitions from the hospital while providing compassionate, expert care in a secure setting.”
