I just received one of those phone calls from Chuck Woodard where he wants to "build bridges," have coffee, etc.. Chuck admitted to me privately on the phone that he did a bad job as Chairman of the most recent Selectman meeting. But I am not falling for it this time. I know Chuck too well and I have seen this movie before. I suggested Chuck should make the apology publicly, which I think/hope he will eventually do for the reasons below.
Just like the two dissenting voices that got kicked of Fincom last week, and Mark Minassian last year, I was also kicked off the Fincom for being a dissenting voice on Fincom, by Chuck Woodard. Chuck, as Chair of the Fincom, was holding private meetings to discuss overrides, the most important topic of the year. I objected to these private meetings so Chuck kicked me off the Fincom. This is the way it goes in Sudbury. You dissent, you are silenced. Then, Chuck will invite you for coffee, come across as charming, tell you how independent he is and how he is not beholden to anyone and then he does the exact opposite. I have known Chuck long enough to know that he innately believes important decisions should be made in private. I have known Chuck long enough to know he says one thing but does another.
I have been through this before so when I see Chuck Woodard tear down bridges and then call and says he wants to build bridges, I know better. I know he does not really want to build bridges. He just wants to get re-elected. Chuck tears down bridges to protect his inner circle, like the town manager and the town counsel and their massive contract extensions. But he also wants to get re-elected so he we will drink alot of coffee and tell you anything you want to hear. But then later he will punch you again, right in the gut.
