New Cafe, Bistro Coming To Historic Wayland Building
The new business will transform Wayland's first town hall and library into a cafe and community hub.
WAYLAND, MA — A new cafe and bistro is preparing to open inside one of Wayland’s most historic buildings.
Town House Cafe & Bistro is planned for 21 Cochituate Rd. and is now expected to open sometime this year. The new business will transform Wayland's first town hall and library into a cafe and community hub.
The building, originally built in 1841, was known as "Town House" and, shortly after, became the site of the first free public library in Massachusetts.
Town House Cafe & Bistro said it plans to honor the building's historic past with several design touches, including a custom illustration blending library themes with the Mayflower, the official flower of Massachusetts. One upstairs space will be called “The Library” and will feature floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, window seats, chairs, and a secret bookcase connecting it to the study.
The Wayland Zoning Board of Appeals previously approved restaurant use for the property, which is owned by Millbrook Group LLC. A later ZBA application sought approval to add an outdoor patio to the existing building, according to town records.
In June, Vantage Builders said work would begin soon on the project, which will transform Wayland’s first town hall and library into a cafe and community hub.
The business has not yet shared an exact opening date.
