Much has been happening since I last posted news on Justina Pelletier, the sixteen year old formerly competitive ice-skating teen taken from her parents by BCH over disputed medical diagnoses.
HHS Secretary Polanowicz had met last month with the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, human rights activist and family representative, to negotiate a reunification plan. The Secretary presented a plan which he said would be the fastest process to return Justina home, which involved transferring Justina to Connecticut, and requiring the parents to accomplish four criteria ( which basically were ones the family had been doing prior to being accused of medical abuse by Boston Children's then CPS director, Amanda Newton). (See previous Patch blogs or go to FoxCT news and enter "Justina" in the search field for Beau Berman's award winning journalism and timeline on the events.)
The family has quickly complied with the "conditions", meeting with Justina's former family pscyhologist for family therapy, and to their great relief,"following Tufts Medical plan.) HHS and DCF have filed motions to have the case dismissed, and Secretary Polanwicz has also directed his legal team to see if the department can take unilateral action apart from returning the case to Judge Johnston.
Supporters as well as family are eagerly awaiting and praying for a positive outcome and that Justina will be allowed to return home and resume her life.
