Auditions for "Once On This Island"

Metrowest Family Theater proudly announces auditions for
ONCE ON THIS ISLAND

Auditions: March 21 & 25 at The Performing Arts
Connection in Sudbury
Performances: June 21-23 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown
Directed by Samantha Bower, Choreography by Carla Gerken

This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid garnered
eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score. In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of Ti Moune,
a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her
love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

Our production will feature stunning, colorful costumes and scenery, a full band, innovative choreography, and all the heart & soul it takes to present such a deeply moving story!  Performances take place at the beautiful Arsenal

Seeking

We are seeking adults, teens, & children in grades 2* and up.

There are plenty of roles for all ages and levels in our production!  There
are a variety of principle roles for adults, teenagers, and children in addition
to an incredibly active ensemble.  We will have featured roles for various
ensemble members including special "Rain" dancers, speaking roles like the
Gatekeeper and Storytellers, and more!   Read on for the complete character
breakdown!


What to bring

  1. Make an appointment online
  2. 16 bars of a Broadway show tune in the style of OOTI (accompanist
    provided)
  3. Recent photo (a snapshot or school photo is fine)
  4. The audition

Schedule

Wednesday, April 11 at 7pm for read thru, measurements & script pick up;
May 6-June 14 (Sundays 1:00-5:00 and Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00-8:00; no
rehearsal May 27); Sunday June 17 from 5:00-8:00; Tech week June 18-20 from
5:00-10:00). Performances June 21, 22, and 23 at 7:30pm & June 23 at 2:00pm.
Rehearsals held at The Performing Arts Connection in Sudbury. Tech week and
performances at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown.


Fees

MFT main stage shows are tuition based. Adults ages 18 and older: $40.
Children ages 17 and under: $175. All production fees directly benefit these
large scale, high budget musicals. All cast members must sell an ad for the
program (1 per family). Cast members provide make up, undergarments, tights and
shoes.
