Messiah Sing - Parts II and III, including the Hallelujah chorus

Memorial Congregational Church (MCC) in Sudbury is proud to present a performance of Parts II and III of the Messiah, the famous oratorio by G.F. Handel, on Sunday March 4th, at 3:00 p.m.

In a tradition lasting over 38 years, MCC has always hosted a Messiah-Sing on the second Sunday of December, usually featuring Part I (The Christmas Section) of the oratorio.  Because the entire work is so long, most modern day performances only include a portion of the oratorio.  But this year, for musicians and music lovers alike, MCC is excited to be offering the entire work to be performed in two concerts, in December and in March.  Part II tells the story leading up to Easter, and Part III celebrates Christ’s resurrection and ascension.

MCC’s Minister of Music, Cathy Meyer, will conduct the orchestra, soloists and the community chorus.  “So many of these movements – both choruses and solos -- are rarely heard.  It is a true gift to be able to hear the entire oratorio and to understand the story and the music that Handel and his librettist intended in its full context.”

Four of New England’s finest soloists will sing the solo movements –soprano Rebekah Alexander, mezzo-soprano Brooke Larimer, tenor J.P. Christian Milde, and baritone John Whittlesey.

The public is invited to participate as members of the chorus: singing alto, soprano, tenor, and bass parts in all the choral movements to be performed.  Chorus members may bring their own score or borrow one from the church for the duration of the performance.
