Forum On Vaping Coming To Sudbury

The forum will cover the prevalence of vaping among young people in Sudbury and Lincoln schools and more.

SUDBURY, MA — The League of Women Voters of Sudbury will host a forum for parents on vaping and how young people are using vape products. The forum will also feature doctors speaking about the health effects of vaping, and police will talk about signs of vaping use.

How prevalent is vaping among students in Sudbury? How are schools approaching this
issue? Get the answers at a public forum, “Vaping and Our Kids: An Evening with the Experts,”
on Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, 390 Lincoln Road. The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Sudbury and is free and open to the public.

Speakers will discuss the medical consequences of vaping, what vaping products look like, how the schools are dealing with the issue, and resources available for families. A panel will answer questions.

Deborah E. Simon, M.D., will discuss the medical consequences and impact of vaping and offer information about resources if a parent believes a child is vaping. Dr. Simon is a member of the pediatric staff of Acton Medical Associates, school physician for the Concord Public Schools, and an instructor at the UMass School of Medicine.

Sudbury school resource officers—the police staff assigned to schools--will present information about vaping devices and signs of vaping. Administrators from Sudbury Public Schools and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School will discuss what the schools are doing in terms of education and prevention, discipline, and resources.

Bill Murphy, Sudbury Health Director, will participate on the question-and-answer panel to address what is happening locally and at the state level to deal with the vaping issue.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages informed and active participation in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues.
