On Wednesday, June 4, the Goodnow Library Foundation will host a reception for some of Sudbury's finest--and youngest--artists.
The occasion is the opening of a major art show at Goodnow, "Community Connection." The show will include works by children ranging in age from tots to 'tweens.'
Many of the pieces focus on how the youngsters see themselves in relation to their home, school and community.
Artists are drawn from students in the Sudbury public schools (elementary and middle school), along with preschoolers enrolled at Bright Horizons. Their artwork will be displayed in the library's Children's and Young Adult rooms.
The "Community Connection" reception runs from 4 to 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
During the event, Beehive Art of Wayland will conduct an art activity for young guests. In addition, the Sudbury School of Music Jazz Combo will provide musical entertainment. Whole Foods is donating light refreshments.
Sudbury residents Maggie Helon and Melissa Remley spearheaded the innovative arts event. The idea for the show grew out of the two women's work with the Goodnow Library Foundation's Community LAB, a group created to initiate and carry through projects to improve the library's services.
Kat Liddle, Goodnow's Children's librarian, worked closely with Helon and Remley, and coordinated efforts with public school art teachers.

The Goodnow Library is located at 21 Concord Rd.
