Beginning in 1639 when Sudbury was incorporated, there were no schools but Puritan parents were mandated by the Church to teach their children the ways of the Lord and to instruct them to read. By 1900 Sudbury had established a school system that closely resembles the school system we have today. According to Hoover, “The Sudbury Town Archives are not complete and there are gaps in time but they do provide snapshots of the schools and the importance of education in history. “
Brenda Musser Castino comes from a family of educators and is a descendent of Edmund Lockwood who came with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630. The Historical Society is grateful to Musser Castino for her time spent researching and compiling the information for the program which is sure to be most interesting for all audiences.
