I Stand with Superintendent Crozier

A Citizen’s Petition was submitted on April 6 to the Sudbury Select Board calling for a Special Town Meeting. This petition included a single warrant article: a “Vote of No Confidence” in the Sudbury School Committee. I signed the petition, and I would like to explain why I have lost all confidence in this Committee to represent our community in good faith.

It is the sworn duty of the SPS School Committee to uphold its own policies, including the policy stating that the Committee “has an obligation to determine and assess citizens’ desires.” The Committee has failed to uphold this obligation. Our community respectfully and decisively expressed concerns regarding its actions during public comment at the March 2, 2026 School Committee meeting (a recording is available on sudburytv.org). There was unanimous support for Superintendent Crozier as a respected and admired district leader who has always put Sudbury students first. Comments from SPS principals, teachers, and parents were compelling and reflected a strong, trusting partnership—one forged through years of hard work and collaboration that has become the bedrock of our excellent schools. Despite this, the Sudbury School Committee has turned a deaf ear to the community, choosing instead to move forward with plans to remove a superintendent who has served our children well for eight years.

I also have serious concerns regarding the Superintendent’s evaluation process. As a former Chair of the LS Superintendent Evaluation Subcommittee, I am familiar with this process. The evaluation process is mandated by DESE, yet only two of the current five School Committee members have participated in a full evaluation cycle with the Superintendent during their tenures. While the Committee, as a body, approved district goals and an evaluation timeline, the process does not appear to have been followed, and the community is unaware of any documented performance concerns. To the contrary, Superintendent Crozier has received consistently positive evaluations since joining the district.

SPS has been a well-led, high-performing district since Superintendent Crozier’s arrival in 2018. Under his strong, student-centered leadership, the district has maintained a focus on curriculum development and instructional improvement within DESE frameworks, while also participating in state initiatives related to student support systems and long-term strategic planning. Sudbury was identified as one of the few districts in the state whose most recent MCAS data showed students performing at or above pre-pandemic levels. Our students are thriving, yet in recent months—and without explanation—the School Committee has entered Executive Session to discuss the early termination of Superintendent Brad Crozier’s contract. This unjustified disruption in district leadership runs counter to the will of the community and will undoubtedly have long-lasting negative consequences for the district.

For these reasons, I stand firmly in support of a “Vote of No Confidence” in the Sudbury School Committee and in solidarity with Superintendent Crozier.
