Leave It to the Baby Beaver, Who Got Stuck on Easter

'The way he got stuck in there was just horrible.'

Well, we wonder what this little beaver told his family when he was late for Easter dinner.

On Sunday, shortly before 5 p.m., Sudbury police responded to a call about a baby beaver that got stuck in a chain link fence on Autumn Street.

Police assisted Boardman Animal Control (the town’s animal contractor), to help free the animal from its trappings.

“The way he got stuck in there was just horrible,” said Jennifer Condon, animal control officer. “He squeaked his body through the chain link fence, with his head and arms through, but he couldn’t get his hips through. I put some Dawn (dish detergent) on him thinking he could slip through.”

The detergent wasn’t enough, so Condon got permission from the homeowners and cut the fence, and the guy went scurrying off.

Authorities do not know if the beaver went straight home.

“The beaver was freed and left the area under its own volition,” said Police Chief Scott Nix.

Condon, who handles animal control for many towns, added that she has received multiple calls to pick up beavers that have been hit and killed in the road recently.

“It was nice to be able to help this one,” she said.
