Man Charged In Connection With Suspicious Package Found On Porch

Breaking: The man is believed to be connected with another suspicious device found back in October, said police.

MAYNARD, MA — A man is facing charges in connection with a suspicious device that was found in town earlier this week.

Chief Mark W. Dubois reports that the Maynard Police Department arrested William C. O'Neil, 51, of Maynard, early Wednesday morning and charged him with placing an explosive device and possessing an explosive device.

On Monday, Feb. 20, police responded to 7 Demars St. after a homeowner called 911 reporting a suspicious package on his front porch. After an on-scene assessment, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad rendered the device safe.

Investigators found that O'Neil was tied to the device and obtained an arrest warrant for him. O'Neil is also believed to be connected to a similar incident that occurred on Oct. 29 involving a suspicious package found near a resident's home on 6 Walcott St. in Maynard.

O'Neil is being held at the Maynard Police Department pending his arraignment at Concord District Court today.

These incidents remain under investigation by Maynard Police and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Additional charges may follow.
