A newly opened stretch of the Mass Central Rail Trail will be marked this week.

SUDBURY, MA — A newly opened stretch of the Mass Central Rail Trail will be marked Thursday with a guided community bike ride from Sudbury.

The Mass Central Rail Trail Alliance will host the official opening ride for the Sudbury to Hudson section on Thursday. Riders are invited to meet at Parkinson’s Field Parking Lot, 40-46 Hudson Rd.

The out-and-back ride will include two options: a 9-mile trip to a natural area in Sudbury and an 18-mile ride to downtown Hudson for ice cream. Kickstands go up at 12:45 p.m., and riders may also join at the Sudbury Diamond at 1 p.m.

The Sudbury-Hudson section runs 7.5 miles from the Sudbury Substation to Wilkins Street in Hudson and was built by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation in 2025, according to DCR.

The broader Mass Central Rail Trail is planned as a 104-mile shared-use trail connecting 27 communities from Northampton to Boston, according to the Mass Central Rail Trail Alliance. The alliance says the Hudson portion of the trail connects with the Assabet River Rail Trail, which can be used to reach downtown Hudson.
