Residents Question Recent Tree Clearing In Memorial Forest
The Conservation Commission released a statement to address concerns about a tree clearing project near conservation land.

SUDBURY, MA — Since tree clearing began at the Sudbury Valley Trustee's Memorial Forest, a number of inquiries have been directed at the Sudbury Conservation Commission.
The forest is adjacent to the Sudbury Hop Brook Conservation land, and the work is being done by SVT under a state Forest Cutting Practices Act plan approval, making it exempt from local wetland permitting.
"This project proposes to convert an existing white pine and oak forest to a pitch pine and scrub oak habitat for the benefit of several uncommon species," said the statement. "At a July 20, 2015, public meeting, the commission expressed concerns with the project specifically with the lack of studies of the impact of the project on non- state listed species, impacts to the riparian corridor along Hop Brook and Cranberry Brook, and the likely regeneration of invasive plant species. We suggest you direct specific questions or concerns directly to SVT."
