Sudbury Board Of Assessors Member Liam Vesely To Run For Re-Election
Sudbury residents will head to the polls to vote on one open seat on the Sudbury Board of Assessors.

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury residents will head to the polls to vote on one open seat on the Sudbury Board of Assessors, and current member Liam Vesely has announced his candidacy for re-election.
Vesely, who has served on the Board of Assessors since 2002, is running for another three-year term. Over 20 years ago, Vesely said he saw a position opening up on the Board and felt it was his way to give back to the town.
"I decided that it was my way of giving back something to the town that I feel so good about," Vesely told Patch. "I thought I could serve the town, and use my skillset to bring to bear on the office, so that was my motivation and continues to be my motivation."

The Board of Assessors determines the "full and fair cash value" of all real and personal property in Sudbury to ensure equitable tax distribution.
"We are charged, as I say, with taxing all property unless it's exempt at full and fair cash value," Vesely told Patch. "The process for doing that, I think a lot of people don't quite understand it, so what I thinkis most important is, of course, making that information available to people."

He said one of his top priorities as an Assessor is making information public and accessible for the community. That includes how the board makes decisions, the process for determining fiscal-year values, and abatements.
"There are a number of programs under state law that are available to certain taxpayers that provide exemptions for them," he said. "One of the other issues I feel is really important is making sure that we get out and we let people know about programs that may be available for those individuals who qualify for those exemptions under state law."

In addition to his roles in Sudbury, Vesely has worked as an attorney in Massachusetts for decades. Prior to working, he attended New York University and Northeastern University School of Law.
Vesely, who has lived in Sudbury for 33 years and raised two children in the town, told Patch that he is grateful to the other members of the Board of Assessors, who have been working together for over a decade.
"I feel I'm very fortunate to have the members of the board," said Vesely. "We work very well together. We're respectful of each other. We listen to what each other has to say."
The Annual Town Election is scheduled for Monday, Mar. 30. 11 town-wide office positions will appear on the ballot, including one seat each on the Select Board, the Board of Assessors, the Board of Health, the Park and Recreation Commission, and the Planning Board.
