Sudbury To Cease Weekly Updates On Coronavirus Cases In Town

The town had been providing a weekly breakdown of local coronavirus cases, including some demographic information.

SUDBURY, MA — The Sudbury Board of Health announced this week that it will no longer provide local weekly updates about coronavirus cases in town. Instead, the town will defer to weekly updates from the state Department of Public Health.

Since March 30, Sudbury has been publishing a weekly account of coronavirus cases in town, including the number of positive tests. The reports also included a demographic breakdown of cases between gender and age groups. The last update was published on May 5.

On Monday, the Board of Health announced it would begin referring all positive cases to Gov. Charlie Baker's contact-tracing (CTC) initiative.

"CTC will not release numbers of positives and contacts until these cases are closed and isolation and quarantine requirements are completed," the board said. "As a result, the health department will not be publishing weekly COVID cases and contacts in Sudbury."

The state DPH began releasing case numbers and rates for every town in the state in April. DPH publishes the data every Wednesday. Sudbury's case count was up to 163 on May 13 with an infection rate per 100,000 people of 910.42.
