Sudbury Nonprofit That Gives Birthdays To Homeless Children Gets Large Gift
A nonprofit that provides birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness has received a gift from the Cummings Foundation.

SUDBURY, MA — A Sudbury-based nonprofit that provides birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness has received a $30,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation.
Birthday Wishes received the grant through the foundation's $30 Million Grant Program to support its work helping children celebrate birthdays, regardless of their families' housing situations. Founded in 2002, Birthday Wishes provides personalized birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.
The nonprofit partners with more than 220 shelters, transitional housing programs, domestic violence safe havens, and school district McKinney-Vento programs across New England, New York, and Los Angeles.

The nonprofit said its celebrations are meant to help children feel seen, valued and connected while giving families a chance to create positive memories during difficult periods.
"At Birthday Wishes, we believe every child deserves to feel celebrated on their birthday, regardless of where they sleep at night," Denell Nuese, Birthday Wishes Executive Director, said. "We are deeply grateful to the Cummings Foundation for investing in children and families experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity."

The grant will help Birthday Wishes continue responding to community needs while maintaining its focus on personalized, caregiver-led birthday celebrations, according to the nonprofit.
