The CPA allows Massachusetts communities to create local funds for open space protection, historic preservation, affordable housing and outdoor recreation, according to the Community Preservation Coalition. CPA money is raised locally through a property tax surcharge of no more than 3 percent and communities may also receive state matching funds, according to the coalition.

The town says applicants may contact town staff for help with questions or project proposals. Staff can review applications and direct applicants to additional information when needed.
