Sudbury Seeks Regional Waste Reduction Coordinator

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury is hiring for a regional municipal assistance job focused on recycling, composting and waste reduction programs.

The Municipal Assistance Coordinator for the Metro West District will be a Town of Sudbury employee supervised by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, serving 41 communities from Dracut to Wrentham and Marlborough to Winchester, according to the town posting.

The job is funded by MassDEP through a host grant to Sudbury. The coordinator will provide technical assistance to municipalities on waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, household hazardous waste diversion and regional cooperation, according to the posting.

The coordinator will work with municipal recycling coordinators, public works staff and health department staff. The role also includes collaborating with other MassDEP municipal assistance coordinators, MassDEP Boston municipal waste reduction staff, and, occasionally, MassDEP Northeast Regional Office solid waste staff.

Duties include helping communities reduce solid waste tonnage, improve recycling programs, hold regional meetings, share updates with municipalities and solid waste districts, contribute to the MAC team newsletter and conduct research on successful waste reduction programs in the district, according to Sudbury.

The position is hybrid, with at least one day per week required in the host office in Sudbury. The job is 37.5 hours per week, with annual compensation of at least $81,000. The position includes full benefits.
