Sudbury Select Board Sets 7 Priorities For Fiscal 2027

SUDBURY, MA — Town finances, staffing and major transportation projects will be among Sudbury officials’ top priorities in fiscal 2027.

The Select Board approved seven goals on Friday, including developing a long-term budget plan, addressing employee turnover, advancing rail trail projects, improving use of the Fairbank Community Center and expanding economic development.

The board’s top-ranked goal calls for exploring new revenue, government efficiencies and alternatives to a Proposition 2 ½ override. Officials said an override may eventually be needed but was not required for fiscal 2027.

The board also plans to address succession planning after years of employee turnover, including four permanent town managers since 2015. Proposed steps include reviewing compensation, supporting professional development and identifying internal candidates for leadership roles.

Other priorities include advancing Phase 3A of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, pursuing membership in a vocational education district and determining the future of programs such as Go Sudbury and MWRTA Catch Connect.

Economic development efforts will focus partly on Route 20.

The board set a March 31, 2027 deadline to identify priority zoning bylaw changes and a June 30, 2027 deadline to produce a town-specific economic development plan.
