Sudbury Senior Center To Launch New Lunch Program With Generous Grant

The Senior Center was among 150 nonprofits to receive a grant from the Cummings Foundation.

SUDBURY, MA — The Sudbury Senior Center announced it received a large grant to support the launch of a new program.

The Senior Center was awarded a $225,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation to support Sudbury Eats, a new lunch program that provides meals and social connection for older adults at the Fairbank Community Center. The money will help bring the center’s commercial kitchen into full operation, the Senior Center said in an announcement Thursday.

The Cummings Foundation listed the Sudbury Senior Center among its 2026 Cummings $35 Million Grant Program recipients, with a $225,000 award.

In June, the foundation said it awarded grants to 150 nonprofits, including 125 three-year grants of up to $300,000 and 25 10-year grants of $300,000 to $1 million.

To date, Cummings Foundation has awarded more than $650 million in grants to nonprofits in Greater Boston. The foundation has also previously donated to other nonprofits in town, including Friends of the Sudbury Senior Citizens Inc., SMILE Mass Inc., Sudbury Valley Trustees and The Wayside Inn Foundation.

The foundation said it "seeks to provide vital funding to mostly local organizations that are working to improve the lives of community members through education, healthcare, human services, fairness/justice, and environmental programs," according to its website.

The Senior Center has not yet announced a launch date for its new Sudbury Eats program.
