Sudbury Signs Community Compact

"In order to succeed, we must work collaboratively with our residents, our neighboring communities."

SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury officials last week signed an important partnership called the Community Compact Program, forging a tighter connection between local government and state government.

Town Manager Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues, along with Selectmen Susan Iuliano, Robert Haarde and Len Simon, Representative Carmine Gentile and Town Department Heads, welcomed Lt. Governor Karyn Polito to Sudbury Town Hall to sign the contract.

On Jan. 23, 2015, Governor Charlie Baker signed his first executive order creating the Community Compact Cabinet and prioritizing the Administration’s partnership with municipalities. Lt. Governor Polito chairs the Community Compact Cabinet and oversees the effort to provide more resources to local governments, through grants and technical assistance, said the announcement.

By entering into a Compact Community Agreement, Sudbury agrees to implement at least one best practice selected from numerous available subjects. These best practices show a commitment to the Commonwealth and to residents. Sudbury chose three best practice initiatives, said the press release.

“I’m proud to sign this compact, formalizing our continued partnership with the state and our commitment to serving the residents of Sudbury is the best possible manner,” said Melissa Rodrigues, town manager, in a statement. “In order to succeed, we must work collaboratively with our residents, our neighboring communities, and state actors and this is an important step in that. I would like to thank Lt. Governor Polito and Governor Baker for providing us with the tools we need to implement best practices that will make our Town even stronger.”
