WATCH: There's a Battle This Weekend in Sudbury

This weekend, enjoy “an experience like never before.”

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Redcoats are determined to take over, while the Colonists are going to do all they can to stop them and send them back to Boston, Longfellow’s Historic Wayside Inn in Sudbury.

It’s a historic re-enactment who will control the Wayside Inn in “the Battle for the Red Horse Tavern.”

Led by the Sudbury Minutemen, the battle pits the Colonial and British armies trying to control the Red Horse Tavern, which like many taverns was an important source of commerce.

“Whichever side controlled the Tavern could control the flow of supplies, troops and information.” The Red Horse Tavern, now the Wayside Inn, sat along the Boston Post Road, which was a major east-west route to and from Boston and New York.

The event starts at noon with fyfe and drum music, a cannon firing demonstration and a mix and mingle. The “battle” begins at 1 p.m. A second battle takes place takes 2:15 p.m. in the south field.
