Women Steal Leather Pants; Man Arrested for Driving on Drugs: Newton Police

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 29

  • A resident came in to the police station to report vandalism to her car. She said her 2009 Mazda 3 was parked in the Wegman’s parking garage when it was keyed. The incident occurred sometime on Tuesday, Oct. 27, between 5 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The scratches were down the entire passenger side of the vehicle.
  • Police were dispatched to 220 Boylston St. (Athleta), for a report of a past shoplifting. The person reported that on Saturday, Oct. 24, around 4:15 p.m., two females entered the store and stole three pairs of black leather pants totaling $1,167. The employee states that one of the women took the pants and hid them up underneath her long skirt to conceal them as they left the store without making the purchase. The first female is described as an African American wearing an angle length flora pattern skirt, a white shirt, jean jacket and knit hat. The second female is described as African American woman wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans.

Oct. 30

  • Police took a report at the front desk for past larceny. She said that on Oct. 3 while dining at Legal Seafoods, someone entered her unlocked vehicle that was parked in the parking to and stole two Bloomingdals bags full of items she had purchased. The woman said she was in the restaurant from approximately 8-10 p.m. that evening and believes she left her car doors unlocked. Her vehicle is a gray, 2009 Toyota Camry. States that inside the Boomingdales bags were items she purchased that evening, which included towels, cookware, gadgets, kitchenware and personal care items.
  • Police responded to Webster Street for a report of an MVA. Police arrived on the location and saw a Honda Civic straddling the curb along Webster Street. A street sign was also knocked over. The operator was out of the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet. His eyes were practically closed, said police, and he looked as if he just woke up. Police smelled a mild odor of marijuana. When police asked him what happened, he began to speak and almost fell over. Police had to catch him and lean him against the vehicle. He stood slumped against the vehicle. He was transported to Newton Wellesley Hospital, where he was issued for OUI (drugs). The male is 22 and from Newton.
