📰 News we're reading
• 'It's not sustainable': A look at school staffing after FY27 budget cuts (recorder.com) — Sunderland Elementary School has merged its two kindergarten and two fourth grade classes into single sections, cutting two teachers and an instructional assistant and forcing six teachers to change grade levels. Administrators say this strain is "not sustainable," and note that a recent override vote by Sunderland residents narrowly preserved art, music, library, counseling and math support from deeper cuts.

• Addressing a 'recognition shortage': Third annual breakfast celebrates local heroes (recorder.com) — A Sunderland resident, auto detailer Paul Wanczyk, was honored as one of six "Franklin County Heroes" at the Super Chamber Breakfast for his quiet generosity, from shoveling neighbors' driveways to supporting local schools and drives. The celebration at Franklin County Technical School highlighted everyday volunteers and workers across the county and invited new nominations for next year's superhero recognitions.
