Boston Ballet Spring and Summer Programs Abound

Boston Ballet School’s North Shore studio announces spring and summer news and events. The North Shore studio presents a ballet story hour at the Peabody Institute Library on April 12. In addition, the Studio has announced its 2012 summer programming.

All Boston Ballet School programs have on-going enrollment for classes this spring and summer.

A new pilot program with the Tower School in Marblehead launched on March 26, for children ages 3 to 6. The program consists of an eight week session of Boston Ballet School classes as part of Tower School’s Overtime program. These classes will be specifically for Tower School students. This program will be Boston Ballet School’s first partnership with an independent school in the North Shore area.

The Children’s Program will visit the Peabody Institute Library to present a ballet story on April 12, at 10 am. This year’s ballet is a child-friendly version of Don Quixote.

After the story has been read, children in attendance will able to view BostonBallet costumes, pointe shoes, and tiaras. The event will end with a dance lesson from Boston Ballet School staff to music excerpts from the Don Quixote score. This is a free event that is open to the public.

The children’s school year culminates with a final presentation, “Step by Step” on May 19. The performance is a celebration of the accomplishments of Boston Ballet School students, showcased in a progression of training. This event is free and open to the public.

Boston Ballet School offers a distinguished introduction to the world of dance. With classes available for a variety of ages and experience levels, the program provides students with an excellent dance foundation. The ten month school year runs from September through June, with a curriculum designed

by Boston Ballet School’s dance educators. Each studio boasts internationally renowned faculty – Evelyn Cisneros-Legate, retired San Francisco Ballet principal dancer with over a decade of experience in dance education is the Marblehead Studio Principal.

The Children’s Program, headed by Luciano Aimar, offers classes for students ranging from 2 – 7 years old. The program supports the development of motor skills and coordination, while also preparing students for continued study of classical ballet.

As the school year comes to a close, the Children’s Program offers two summer programs – Ballet Stories, a program for 3-4 year olds, and Ballet Journeys, a program for 5-7 years olds. Registration for the summer offerings is now available.

Boston Ballet School also offers summer programs for older students and experienced dancers. The Summer Dance Workshop is a program providing dancers ages 9-12 years old with exceptional ballet training. Students focus on technique and classical repertoire, along with supplemental enrichment classes, such as modern or character dance. All classes are led by Boston Ballet School faculty.

The Master Class Series is a summer program designed for students to stay conditioned and further their ballet technique. Taught by Boston Ballet School’s faculty, each class will include boys work and pointe classes for girls. Students registered in the Master Class Series are required to have previous training at an intermediate level.

On June 9, students of Boston Ballet School’s Marblehead Studio will perform Tales of Mother Goose, a production directed by North Shore Principal Evelyn Cisneros-Legate with choreography by Alicia Macdonald, and Boston Ballet School faculty members. The performance showcases Marblehead students in a charming, imaginative one-act ballet set to the music of Sergey Prokofiev.

Boston Ballet will present the third annual Next Generation performance on Wednesday, May 16, 7pm at The Boston Opera House. The performance features students from the Pre-Professional Program and Boston Ballet II, with musical accompaniment from over 50 musicians with New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
