Lynn Man Identified As Swampscott Fatal Industrial Accident Victim

The Essex County DA's Office said Christopher Perry, 37, was cleaning a rock crusher device above the quarry when it malfunctioned.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A Lynn man working to clean a rock crusher suspended above the Aggregate Industries quarry when the rock crusher apparently malfunctioned was identified as the employee killed in the Swampscott construction accident on Monday.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said on Wednesday that Christopher Perry, 37, and another worker were cleaning the crusher with the assistance of a crane when the malfunction occurred. Perry was pronounced dead at the scene while the other worker was uninjured.

Swampscott police were called to the quarry site at 30 Danvers Road at about 1 p.m. on Monday for a report of a problem involving the rock crusher.

A Medflight and technical rescue were initially called but later canceled when it was determined that the victim did not survive the accident.

The death is being investigated by the Essex County DA's Office State Police Detective Unit, Swampscott Police and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
