Man Charged With Unarmed Robbery and Assault

The following is an excerpt from the Swampscott Police logs. Where charges are mentioned it does not indicate a conviction.

 Thursday, April 11

  • At 4:45 p.m., police received a report of skateboarders riding in the middle of Pleasant Street. The caller was concerned for their safety. The skateboarders were gone upon police's arrival.
  • At 8:28 p.m., police received a report from a Bay View Road caller who heard a loud bang and found a screen from a window had been removed and was on the ground. The caller also said his wife saw two young people walking down the street with backpacks heading toward Crest and Oak Streets. 
  • At 9:22 p.m., a father and son came to the police station. The son does not want to return home.

Saturday, April 13

  • At 1:42 a.m., a caller reported youth throwing fireworks in front of China Green at 211 Burrill St.
  • At 2 a.m., a Phillips Avenue caller said she thought someone had entered her home while she was sleeping. The alarm was sounding. It turned out the wind may have triggered the alarm.
  • At 9:52 a.m., a Farragut Road caller reported an incident of bank fraud.
  • At 8:52 p.m., a Forest Avenue caller reported smelling something burning in the basement. Firefighters discovered smoldering papers in the basement and took care of the problem.

  • At 9:22 a.m., a person was walking on Humphrey Street and appeared to be having issues with himself. The party was reported to be walking back to Lynn.
  • At 9:58 a.m., a past hit and run was reported on Farragut Road.
  • At 1:23 p.m., a large crowd gathered on King's Beach where a dead seal had washed ashore.
  • At 2:53 p.m., police investigated a suspected breaking and entering at Essex Street and Essex Avenue.
  • At 7:22 p.m., police charged Jamile Smith, 37, of 794 Mass Ave., Boston with unarmed robbery, domestic assault and battery and disorderly conduct.
