Man Says He's an Off-Duty State Trooper, Will Be Mailing a Ticket

Man claimed the other driver ran him off the road.

A woman driving on Walker Road Thursday said a man in a truck told her he was a state trooper and threatened to write her a ticket.

According to Swampscott Police Capt. John Alex, the woman told local police she was driving on Walker Road when a dark blue or black Ford 150 coming toward her drove up on a snowbank to get past her on the narrow road. The truck then began following her, the woman told police.

The driver of the truck sped up beside her and she pulled over, the police report notes. The truck driver, claiming to be an off-duty state police officer, then told the woman she ran him off the road and he would be mailing her a ticket. He then sped off.

The woman reported the incident to police, but was unable to get a license plate number or any identifying information from the driver of the truck.

Alex said that state troopers technically have jurisdiction and the ability to write a ticket in this situation, but “It’s not a practice that most police officers would do.”
