No Reprieve For Borders Books

Local store is liquidating its assets and closing.

Book lovers and employees at breathed a sigh in June when they found out the store was given from closing until the year's end.

But the sigh now is one of resignation and sadness at the Paradise Road store as the national bookseller is liquidating.

Borders announced late last month that it would close its remaining 400 stores.

They have been told they will be given 10 days notice before the store shutters.

The staff continues to serve customers well, helping them find the books they are seeking and referring them to other bookstores, if need be, she said.

A frequent question from their longstanding customers is: "Where are we going to go?" Marcey said.

The customers are sad about staff members losing their jobs and sad to know that soon they will no longer have the local store from which to buy books.

Marcey, a Marblehead mom, will look for a new job as a staff assistant, she said.

She is outgoing and professional with very strong organization skills.
